A Good Effort

The first 5 seconds of the song is my favourite part. How it starts off slow then the how drums come in and get it rolling is really smooth. The rest of the song, however, even though in the same key, does not mix very well. Hardly anything sounded bad, but hardly anything sounded good either. But I did like the classical part (which still did not mix perfectly, but mixed better than the other sections).

In the classical section there is a track of chord progressions which has a synth sound rather than classical. If you're going to separate this project into separate sections, it helps if the sections actually fully match the descriptions. :P

The "whole shebang"... well, that sounded terrible to be honest. At least you separated the project into different sections for the rest of it though.

To the participants: to be oblivious of your teammates' parts, only aware of what your part sounded like, and for each member to produce something that when mashed together did not sound bad is an extremely good effort. I admire how some people took the initiative to create a melodic lead as others sacrificed showing off their skills in a technical melodic lead but produced simple harmonious chord progressions to improve the overall sound of the song.

In conclusion, this project turned out pretty well seeing as how it was produced and taking into consideration the rules the creators had to follow. A mashup is never going to be truly amazing as a written composition but this was a good effort.

Rig responds:

Yeah, I was expecting this to be a lot worse, tbh. But that's what making an Exquisite Corpse is all about. A blind mashup. Thanks for the comprehensive review!

And in the classical section, that "synth" sound is actually a Rhodes.

Nice

Nice guitar playing here, bro. The sound is pretty good (though, it would be much better if it was digitally recorded, not through a mic).

Nice work.

axlisbak responds:

thanks! like i said, i recorded it through the mic on my mp3 player, which does a pretty good job but im going to get a decent microphone or a midi input for the laptop to improve on the sound. thanks for the review

Not too bad

The synth string lead is pretty good but gets overrun by the drum and bass, which is too hard and fast to fit with the rest of the song.

YouriX responds:

Sorry for that. but it is after all DnB. But funny enough i had the drums soft at first.
Anyways Thank you for the very usefull review.

Great Work

Great piano work here, mate. I hope you get a good vocalist and it works out well.

You should go a bit lighter on the drums though, seeing as it is a ballad. Keep it up!

LightKeeper responds:

Well IzzyMoon the last reviewer before you has actually volunteered to do the vocals, she has a beautiful voice too. My computer crashed awhile back though and I just got it back up so it may be awhile before I can even work on the song again.

Video Game Style

This is a song that sounds like typical old-school video game soundtracks. Honestly, it's quite good but the lead should not loop for so long. Using the same sound, give the lead different notes, make unique parts.

I know it's only a demo and it's coming along nicely. Keep it up.

YouriX responds:

Believe me! It varies alot!! there is a chord progression goin on in this demo i geuss its to soft to notice :P

I have checked out most of your stuff

And I like this the most. I love the ambient parts as well as the hardcore drum and bass parts. However, I did get a bit sick of the hardcore drums at times. As cool as drum and bass get, you do need other good tracks to go with it for great songs.

Your drum and bass skills are good, but you need to work on your leads now. Create a catchy tune, then I think your music will be a lot better.

Keep going man, and good luck with your music!

YouriX responds:

Oooh XD this is a old song man :P Still thank you for your input :)
And for the review!

Nice

Nice work here. The strings are epic. Personally, I would have liked some bass sounds but still very good.

Box-Killa responds:

The piano has bass :D

Very Nice

Great ambient work here. The sounds were very clear and the scratches were great (even though I'm not a big fan of scratches).

I rather liked the piercing, electric piano sounding notes around the middle. The strings that come in around 4:30 make that part epic.

Great work.

Rucklo responds:

Thank you very mucho for the review bud! :)

Awesome!

Amazing work! I love the '80s feel to it. Do you also play the drums or were they made in a program?

Metaljonus responds:

Thanks man! I programmed the drums.

Nice

Could definitely do with some bass though. And that includes the bass drum too. The only drums used in this song are cymbals, hi-hats and snares.

I like the guitar except the ending was pretty terrible and sounded as if it was out of tune.

cHunter responds:

All the drums were samples, heh. I suck at drumming so I just used stuff from FL.

And the guitar at the end being messed up is because I only recorded the verse/chorus once and then just repeated it, so the end sounds weird, heh. What can I say, it was a rough take. :P
